I'm using Word 2003 and for some reason, the option to Select All in the
Styles Task Pane is greyed out.

Any ideas how to get it un-greyed out?

Under "Pick formatting to apply", Select All is grayed out if the style
shown in not used in the current document.

Are you saying that the Select All button *above* the Pick Formatting...
list is also grayed out?

For this feature to be available, you must have "Keep track of formatting"
enabled on the Edit tab of Tools | Options.
