Default How do you embed a bitmap so that insert it as a packaged file?

I am trying to insert a bitmap into a file (MathCAD worksheet, Word
document). Even though I don't have the insert as icon checked, the bitmap
shows up as an icon. When I write click on it, it gives me options to edit
the package with the object packager. I never heard of this before. I
recently received a new harddrive with a fresh install of Windows XP
Professional and Office 2003. I never had this problem with the previous
install of Windows.
