blackberry and office 2007
Hi
Since RIM make Blackberries, they are likely to know what works and what does not work on them. I am not aware that Microsoft has made a converter to use Word 2007 documents on Blackberries or other mobile devices. Hope this helps. Shauna Kelly. Microsoft has provided a compatibility pack to convert Word 2007 documents
for older systems. As Shauna points out, however, there is no guarantee that this will help if you're trying to read a doc on your BlackBerry. If that's the case, get the sender to save the doc in Word 97-2003 format instead. -- Suzanne S. Another person reported that RIM had advised they would be updating BeS/Blackberry connect during SP4, possibly near summer, to add
that capability. For 'regular' Windows/Word users there is a MS Office compatibility pack that opens the .docx files. For Windows Mobile the MS Pocket PC folks would be the ones who would create a converter for the Pocket PC apps and there is a converter being worked on, although I haven't heard of a time frame for it yet. (Folks who have Office 2007 can still choose to use 'Save as Word 97-2003' (.doc) file format, but in the meantime you may want to try either the online converter http://docx-converter.com to see if that gives you the short term capability. The Office 2007 file formats are an open standard (zipped XML files) so I'd guess there will be other 3rd party solutions available in the coming months as well.
