I downloaded Microsoft, but now I cannot type or use the toolbar. I get a pop
up that says "Modification is not allowed because selection is locked." How
do you unlock this?

you failed to activate it to begin with.

That is usually the symptom that your trial period has expired or you failed
to activate the product.

If it's a trial version, you will need to purchase a product key. If it is
because it has not been activated, you will need to activate it. To do
that, click on the Office button and then on Word Options and then on
Resources and you will see an "active Microsoft Office" item.
