Hot to get rid of automatic word count?
When opening or Ctrl+Tabbing to my document in Word 2003, a task bar at the
bottom automatically starts performing a word count, the doc is big and so the count takes a few seconds and it's frustrating, I can't find any options in help or task bars that even advise of this auto word count function? How can I get rid of it? -- Thanks, Al |

This is the Status Bar, found under Tools, Options, View.
This should be remembered when you close Word and PC. Hope this helps. No it's not the status bar - it is something which appears within the status
bar as a function and then when the word count is complete the status bar returns to display the usual page number section total pages etc. Removing the status bar simply removes the bar at the bottom of the screen but the word count is still performed.....any other suggestions? -- Thanks, Al "DeanH" wrote: This is the Status Bar, found under Tools, Options, View. Hot to get rid of automatic word count?
When I remove the Status Bar, I don't get any count and am able to work with
the document instantaneously (not that I cannot do anyway with the Status Bar in place). Is the count actually stopping you from working within the document when you open it for those few seconds? As I don't see the count when I turn off the Status Bar, what do you actually see when this is turned off? What view are you in? Do you open the Word files from Explorer or File Open? Do you have Document Map open? Sorry for the quiz, but I cannot replicate the count when Status Bar is turned off. As it is such a "large" document, maybe it is not the count that is holding
up your work, maybe it is something else that runs upon Open, such as "Update automatic links at Open" on Tools, Options, General? Does this help? Hot to get rid of automatic word count?
it egg times when I open or tab to the window and in the status bar a
progress bar displays with the text: word is calculating the word count. So I can't work till it's complete.... I've just re-opened from explorer and it's no longer happening?! -- Thanks, Al "DeanH" wrote: When I remove the Status Bar, I don't get any count and am able to work with the document instantaneously (not that I cannot do anyway with the Status Bar in place).
