Default Delete key failure and hot key problem

I am using Word 2003 and just in the past few days have started having a
problem deleting selected text or graphics with the delete key. I can delete
words one letter at a time, but not as a selected group. I receive the
message on the bottom bar: "Delete block? no (yes)". Clicking on the either
part of the message does nothing but get rid of it. I do not have this
problem in other applications.
Also the usual Control+Home no longer takes me to the top of my page, but
instead opens the Find & Replace window.
Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Did some recent update cause this?

Both problems have the same cause. On the General tab of Tools | Options,
clear the check boxes for both items that refer to WordPerfect.
