Default Word '97. My apostrophes turn into little boxes

Hello: I was unable to post this anywhere else. I tried doing it in Word,
but whenever I clicked on question a small orange maple leaf would flash at
the point and nothing further happened. Anyway, here's my problem...

I type my emails in Word '97 and then transfer the corrected text to an
outlook express page and send it off. At the receiving end, all the
apostrophes in my email have been changed into little boxes. This happens
with all recipients (including me, if I mail one to myself). I've read about
this strange phenomena in many places, including the word forum, but have
never seen a coherent explanation or solution. Can anyone help me out?

Thanks, Don

Most likely is that you have SmartQuotes enabled. This turns the normal
straight quotation marks into wizzy looking curly quotation marks. You can
turn this feature off under Tools AutoCorrect, but note that there are
several places where it needs to be disables - AUtoFormat and AUtoFormat as
You Type.

Thanks for the input Terry. Actually it only changes apostrophes to little
boxes and does nothing else. Any further suggestions, anyone?

Apostrophes or quotation marks, it's all the same. Try what Terry
suggested.

Hope this helps.
