exactly what you're doing.

use a picture editor of some kind, instead. Word is great with text, but not
so great with pictures (as you're discovering). Windows Paint (which comes
with Windows) can insert text in different colors, as can the the

Default How do i insert descriptive text in a picture???

Herb,
thanks for replying im using Word 2002 // i have overlapped two photos and
one of the photos has a stack of 4 colors // all im wanting to do is type in
the color name of the solid color over that color. i see it done all the
time but cant figure out how to "overwrite" the color name onto the picture
// i will be doing this with a few different sets but this is the first and
hopefully the most difficult (for me)

If the picture is In Line With Text, use a text box (No Line, No Fill) with
In Front of Text wrapping to put text in front of the picture.

If the picture is In line with text, in Format Text Box, Layout - Advanced
button, make sure that Move object with text is checked.
