Default IF Statements in Word Fields

Is there a way to create a validation where if a certain field is filled in
that another field must be filled in?

For instance, if someone fills in the "Status Change Code" field that the
"Effective Date" field must be filled in? It would be like an "if" statement.

Try asking in microsoft.public.word.mailmerge.fields or
microsoft.public.word.vba.general if you don't get a knowledgeable answer
here.
