Default Select table with alt-2-click

Is there a way to select a table with Alt-Dble-Click and not get the Research
pain? Word 2003

Default Select table with alt-2-click

Unfortunately, no. If you are in Print Layout view, you can select the table
by clicking on its table handle, but the only keyboard shortcut for this is
Alt+T, C, T. This is one of the most annoying "improvements" in Word 2003.

Default Select table with alt-2-click

Something seems amiss: Alt-T, C, T gives Tools Customize... Tools. The
menu Table shortcut is indicated as "a", but Alt-A gives me an Appendix
Heading Style. It's in Normal.dot, so it looks like an IT job, & I'll try to
disable it.

Right, sorry. I don't use such shortcuts, so I misstated it. It would be
Alt-A, C, T. If Alt+A gives you a style, then it's definitely a custom
shortcut, which you can remove through Tools | Customize | Keyboard.
