Default Mail Merge - trim field lengths

Hi Guys

I have created a label in Word 2003 using Mail Merge from a database.

Everything is fine, it all pulls through fine, formatted correctly, prints fine etc etc but the issue i have is that one field can exceed a certain length and drop down onto the next line which then makes the label print over two labels.

Example:
Cook Adam - displays fine on one line
PatientSurname Forname1 - is to long and drops the Forname1 onto the next line which pushes the label down onto two labels.

Is there anyway i can restrict the length of this field and maybe insert a * to show the field has been trimmed down?

Any help/suggestions would be great.

Thanks in advance
Adam

Default Mail Merge - trim field lengths

Hi Adam,

Word provides no field manipulation tools (eg switches/filters) for this. However, if you place the fields into a table in which the
cell heights & widths are fixed, you can prevent the text wrapping from changing the label heights - anything that doesn't fit the
space provided will simply be truncated. Note too that, with a table, you have the option of formatting cells so that the text size
auto-adjusts to fit the space available.
