Hi,
i have another question on Header/footer issue for office word 2003 but this is regarding the section break. In the document, say i have 4 pages at the moment with the following footer. Page i Page ii then ----- apply section break (next page) with starting at 1 Page 1 Page 2 That's great, so far so good. But if i went to change the footer for the page 1 to page S1. Page 2 becomes Page S2. That's good. However, the preceding page like Page i and Page ii have become Page Si and Page Sii respectively. Why'd the footer get changed even when they are in different section in the document. How do i get around this? Thank you in advance |

You have to unlink the footers. Click View | Header and Footer to activate
the header/footer area. Click in the footer. Then, on the Header and Footer toolbar, click the Same As Previous (or maybe it was called Link to Previous in Word 2003--I don't remember) button to turn it off. Now you can remove the "S" from the (relevant) header of the first section. Note that if there are multiple footers (and headers), which will be the case if "Different first page" or "Different odd and even" is checked in File | Page Setup, each footer must be unlinked separately. See http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/HeaderFooter.htm. Note also that if you are planning to insert fields that make use of page numbers, such as cross-references or table of contents, these will not include anything typed into the footer (or header), such as the "S"; instead, they will only reflect what is displayed by the page number fields. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "Associates" wrote in message ...
