Default SAVEAS / OPEN very slow

Hello Everyone,

I have Office 2003 with SP2 on my laptop and everytime I go to open a
document or SAVEAS a document whenever I click on the dropdown to select the
directory where I need to get/save the file my Word/Excell/Outlook freezes
for about 30 seconds while it generates the list.

I have reset my Normal.dot template but still no luck.

I've tried similar OPEN/SAVEAS actions from other programs (such as
wordpad/notepad/adobe) and none of them take that longer than 2 seconds to
list the directory structure.

Can someone please help me?

Thanks

Right-click on the My Computer icon on the Windows desktop,
left-click on Disconnect Network Drive, and disconnect any mapped
drives that are not currently available.

That's correct. The problem you're having isn't with your file or where the
file is stored; it's in how Word is looking for the location. You said it
yourself: Word has to generate that list. And if there'a mapped network
drive that's not actually there, then Word has to wait for it to time out.
And that can take a while.
