Default How can I associate a new dot file with an existing doc file?

I run a small school teaching a profession which produces legal documents. I
have developed a large set of subdocument formats over the years which are
all based on a single customized dot file. I would like to present each of
my students with a set of these subdocument formats. I would like to change
the styles however. Is there a way to associate a new dot file with an
existing doc file? Trying to individually change the styles for every one of
the subdocument formats is not only a real pain but it is very hard to
maintain consistency.

Thanks for the help.
