Default Word 2007 Very Slow

I am a long time Office 2000 user who has just bought a new computer &
installed Office 2007 Pro & find Word to be Extremely slow. Whenever I move
my cursor the egg timer comes up for a couple of seconds - typing is much
worse. I have a 2.4Ghz dual core CPU & 3 GB RAM withe XP Professional, so
wouldnt have thought my machine would be the problem. Doesnt seem to make
any difference whether I'm in compatibility mode or not (as I was in that
mode to start with, as my co-workers are still using 2000). The other
applications in this pack seem to be working not too bad, just Word is
driving me nuts. Can anyone tell me where I'm going wrong please?

Thanks for your advise Stefan, but your link wasnt applicable. My problem is
when I'm working in a document, not when opening the application.

Did you read it, or did you just look at the title and reject it?

Despite the URL, the article contains general troubleshooting tips for a
variety of problems experienced in opening, closing, and working in Word.

I appreciate your replies & yes I have visited the site & read all the
articles to see if anything sounds familiar, and even sniffed around in other
areas of the "Application Errors" section, but nothing sounds like my
problem.

I reiterate that Word 2007 isnt locking up, or crashing, or giving me any
errors... just running really slowly with every document I look at, be it
produced by me, or anyone else. Non of the other applications in Office Pro
2007 are experiencing this problem.

I was just going to ignore you, but here I am anyway.

I hope your day has improved Grammatim, as you bummed me out for a minute.

Then I thought maybe you treat people this way cause no one as ever bothered
to tell you that your attitude sucks. Thank goodness there are other people
out there who offer polite opinions.

If you _do_ the things suggested in that article, your problem just
might get solved.

Stop wasting everyones time - Of course I've tried the suggestions.

Your comments are not helpful to anyone & I'd appreciate it if you would go
away.

Two MVPs (so far) have tried to help you. It would be a lot easier for
them to come up with possible solutions if you would explain exactly
what your symptoms are, and exactly what measures you have taken to
attempt to fix them, rather than making sarcastic comments about what
you may or may not have understood from their responses. "Doesn't
sound like your problem" doesn't help anyone figure out what your
problem might be.

I think the problem has been pretty clearly stated: Word's performance is
very sluggish in all documents (not just a specific one, so it's not an
issue of document complexity), and this sluggishness is not evident in any
other Office app. I think it would probably be worthwhile to start Word in
Office Safe Mode (by pressing Ctrl while loading) to see if the same
sluggishness is seen there. If so, then the problem is going to be much
harder to find, but if this results in an improvement in performance, then
it would be worthwhile to pursue some of the other suggestions in the
referenced article.
