Default how do I get word count to work Office 2003

Can someone PLEASE help?

I am using office 2003 on my laptop but there is no WORD COUNT on the tool
bar. When I try to customise it to add it to the tool bar, it won't let me
drag it at all. I NEED to be able to do a word count for my essays.

Can you tell me how to 'fix' this or why this is happening? I use Office
2002 (I think! - An older version anyway) on my PC and word count works fine
on there.

Desperately seeking help!

Jenny.
