Default change task bar view

I don't like the view of the "styles" task pane. It takes up almost the top
half of the task bar. Can it be "hidden" so I can enlarge my others, like
"spelling" and fonts et cetera. I only use the "normal" or a "custom" style,
I don't want to see these other ones if I don't have to. Thanks

Unless you are talking about Word 2007, then your terminology is off. There
is, to my knowledge, no Taskbar in any version of Word (the Taskbar is a
Windows feature). If you are referring to the Styles box on the Formatting
toolbar in Word 2003 or earlier, then yes, you can reduce its size. Open
Tools | Customize and use the mouse to drag the Styles dropdown to your
desired size. Or you could remove it entirely if you prefer. Toolbars are
entirely user-customizable in these versions of Word.

If you're referring to the Styles & Formatting task pane in Word 2002/2003,
then all task panes are resizable: use the mouse to drag it to the desired
width.

If you have Word 2007, then I have no idea what you're talking about because
I am not yet using that version, but if you're talking about the Status Bar,
then it is user-configurable as well.
