Default MVP's Pls HELP; Indents are different in 97 vs 2003

Hi All,

I have some documents that have been used for some time with Word 97, When
they are opened in 2003, the Normal & Body Text styles both have
different indents to what they have in 97.

I have confirmed this in a test environment with both PCs connected to the
same printer (drivers will probably be different though as the 97 PC is NT4
and the 2003 PC is XP) but I have switched 'Use printer metrics to lay out
document' on and off to try and resolve this regardless.

For example, the indent for both Normal & Body text styles when shown in 97
is 0cm (Margin is 2cm and this is where the indent marker sits) but when I
open the exact same file at the same time (i.e. in read only mode) in 2003,
the exact same
indent is at 2cm (Margin is 2cm plus indent is 2cm so the indent is ~4cm from
the left edge of the page or table)

I have even even run "Debug.Print
CStr(PointsToMillimeters(ActiveDocument.Styles("Bo dy
Text").ParagraphFormat.LeftIndent))" in code to see what the output is and I
get 0 when I run it in 97 and 19.05 when I run it in 2003

Surely this must be a known bug but I certainly couldn't find a reference to
it on the KB. I have also confirmed that it happens no matter which PCs I
open it on. i.e test/production/whatever. I therefore suspect that there
maybe something in the document (maybe a preceeding heading style or
something) that affects the format differently in each version but for the
lief of me can't figure out what it is.

I've also wondered whether or not 2003 is trying to interpret the older
version styles and fit them into the new generation styles and getting it
wrong. Could it be this? If so, can it be controlled? I have also tried
working with many of the "Recommended Options for:" MS Word 97 in the
comatibility options but obviously with no joy.

Can anyone help me?

Cheers
Mr, Smith.

First, try updating the printer driver.

However, since the problem is with only some documents,
my guess is that those documents are corrupt. See
http://word.mvps.org/faqs/apperrors/CorruptDoc.htm.
