Default Formatting borders in Word 2007

When I try to set line width in "Format Borders and Shading" I can set no
size above 1/2 pt. What do I do if I want wider lines?

Default Formatting borders in Word 2007

After you've selected a different size, click in the Preview picture to
apply the borders. Does that help?
