Default table of figures formatting

Hi, I used the TOC/TC fields to automatically generate a table of contents
and table of figures in Microsoft Word 2002. But the figure titles are
extending into the column of page numbers. I need 1/2" between the end of
the title (often 2-3 lines long) and the page numbers. How can I increase
that margin? I dont seem to be able to figure it out when specifying
formatting upon insertion.
Thanks,
Julie

You need to modify the TOC styles to add a right indent. This is most easily
done using the ruler. Display the horizontal ruler and drag the Right Indent
marker to a position half an inch or more to the left of the numbers. Since
you have a right-aligned tab stop at the right margin, it will be impossible
to click on the Right Indent marker without getting the tab marker first, so
just drag it out of the way temporarily and then put it back where it
belongs after you've got the indent marker positioned to your satisfaction.

Since TOC styles are set to update automatically, change in one entry at a
given level will be propagated to all the entries at that level, but you
will have to repeat it for each level (TOC 1, TOC 2, TOC 3, etc.).

Although you didn't ask, note that TC fields are in most cases an
unnecessarily difficult way of generating a TOC. Unless you have special
requirements (see http://sbarnhill.mvps.org/WordFAQs/TOCTips.htm), it is
easier to generate a TOC based on headings; see
http://www.ShaunaKelly.com/word/toc/CreateATOC.html
