Word 2003 bug - incorrectly showing File Conversion box
Can anyone reproduce this and suggest a workaround? These are the steps to
reproduce, I'm using Microsoft Office Word 2003 (11.8237.8221) SP3. 1. Open Notepad and paste in the following: "SEC_Agreement_Ref","Sub_ID","Plant_ID","Agreement _Plant_ID","Client_Name","Sub_Name","Circuit_Label ","Inspection_Frequency","Serial_Numba","Sub_Namq" ,"Generic_Plant_Description","Type_Desc","Serial_N umber","Manfact_Name","Comment","Date_Inspected"," Engineer_Name","Report_Examined_By","Report_Examin ed_Date","Data1","Data2","Data3","Data4","Data5"," Data6","Data7","Data8","Data9","Data10","Data11"," Data12","Data13","Data14","Data15","Data16","Data1 7","Data18","Data19","Data20","Data21","Data22","D ata23","Data24","Data25","Data26","Data27","Data28 ","Data29","Da" "","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","" ,"","","","","","","","","","","","","","","",""," ","","","","","","","","","","","","","","","" 2. Save this as a CSV file. 3. Open Word, click the Open Data Source button (in the Mail Merge tool bar) and browse to the file you created. 4. On the Confirm Data Source box, check 'Show all' and then double-click 'Text Files (*.txt)' from the list. 5. Everything is fine so far. Close word and open the CSV file in Notepad again. Change the "Dat" at the end of the first line to "Data30". Save and close the file. 6. Repeat steps 3 and 4. 7. Why am I being asked for the character encoding?! |

Word 2003 bug - incorrectly showing File Conversion box
I am unable to reproduce the issue you report. In both cases selecting TXT
files from the list attaches the data source without further issue. Or if you deselect the prompt to confirm conversion at open in Tools Options General, it attaches without any prompts. -- Graham Mayor - Word MVP My web site www.gmayor.com Word MVP web site http://word.mvps.org Steven Wallis wrote: Can anyone reproduce this and suggest a workaround?
