Is there a setting somewhere that would allow me to set the default zoom when
I open a document? Every doc that I open I manually set the zoom to "Page
Width".

To prevent document settings from overriding preferences add the following
lines to each of an autoopen and an autonew macro

With ActiveWindow.View
.Type = wdPrintView
.Zoom.PageFit = wdPageFitBestFit
End With
