Default Formatting Tables in Word

I'm using word 2000. What is the best way to format tables consistantly?

I read there is no table styles in word 2000. What are common work arounds.

Table styles can get freaky anyway:-)

Format an empty table as you wish then select it and create an AutoText
Item.
