Default Word creates unwanted copies of documents which I cannot delete

Word is automatically creating .TMP files, some named ~WRLnnnn or ~$nnnn,
some named Copy(nn) of ~Wrl, etc. When i try to delete these files, they
just generate more copies - up to 200 or more. What is causing this, and how
do I delete them?

Hi Mary,

The temp files Word creates are part of the way it works. Ordinarily, when you close all Office apps 'normally' those files close
themselves, but if Word crashes for any reason it doesn't go back and cleanup after itself.

This page has additional information on some of the temp files that Word uses.

Also, if you don't have Delete permission on the folders you're using, Word
can't clean up after itself.

Default Word creates unwanted copies of documents which I cannot delet

Hi Bob - thankyou for your response, which Incredibly, I missed at the time
it was posted. I just attempted to clean out 36 ~wrl files, and I assure you
my Word has been closing normally. Deletion does not work, as every file I
delete, a copy is created - 'Copy (n) of .. when I delete copy n, then copy
n+1 is created. Any ideas? Mary

Hi Suzanne - thanks for your response - sorry to be so long in responding to
you. Would delete permission be required on a single-user home system?

No, this would apply only on a corporate network, so there's something else
amiss here.
