Default Samart Cut and Paste

I decided to turn off the "smart cut and paste" from the Tools/Options menu
because it was driving me nuts. However, eventhough I unselected this future,
words and the highlighting tool are acting crazy in the word processor:
when I finish highlighting the words I need to copy they become unselected.
When I select a whole sentence, It unselects some words from the paragraph
as I drag to highlight.
Any suggestions?

thank you!

Default Samart Cut and Paste

Could you by any chance have inadvertently activated Extend Selection?
