Default Is Works 4.0 forward compatible to Word 2003?

I have Works files off an old pentium that I would like to retain and burn
onto a cd to have available on my current laptop. Does anyone know how to
convert the files to Word 2003?
I will need to use an external CD Burner as the old pc only has a cd reader.

Thank you,
Dan

Word 2003 does not include a file converter for Works 4.x word
processor (.wps) files, but you can download and install a
converter from Word MVP Graham Mayor's website
http://www.gmayor.com/downloads.htm (scroll about half-way down
the page to the File Converter Downloads section).

Or you can open the old .wps files with Works 4.x and "save as"
rich text format (.rtf) or Word (.doc) files, either of which
Word 2003 can open.
