Setting for "Always Show Full Menus" Does Not Stay
When I use Word 2003 Professional, I go in and check the box to show full
menus. However, the setting does not stick, as after I close Word and then reopen it, I have to check the box again. Is there a quick way to fix this, or would I need to do a complete reinstall? thanks, |

Setting for "Always Show Full Menus" Does Not Stay
The change is not being saved to the Normal.dot.
When you do the change in the Customise Options dialog, have you done an edit in the document and saved the document? I know that for this change to stick you don't necessarily need to do an edit, but it just might make it stick. If that does not work, make the change to Full Menus, close the Customise dialog, then press Shft+File, Save All. If this works, question for you, do you have Acrobat installed? The Acrobat addin can cause some things not to be saved to the Normal.dot, such as new Autotext entries, etc. If you do have Acrobat then have a look at this webpage, especially the section on Add/Remove Program, Modify. I had similar problems with Customise and Autotext, doing the following solved the problem but I also found that if you do the instructions and then reboot, Open and close word, then reverse the Modify instructions, the Acrobat functions return without the clashes with saving Customise and Autotext, etc. http://www.gmayor.com/lose_that_adob...at_toolbar.htm Hope this helps DeanH "beachcity1124" wrote: When I use Word 2003 Professional, I go in and check the box to show full menus. Setting for "Always Show Full Menus" Does Not Stay
Hi Dean,
FWIW, the Tools=Customize=Options choices are generally Office wide rather than Word specific. For Office 2003 it's a registry set at HKey_Current_User\Software\Microsoft\Office\11.0\C ommon\Toolbars It's still entirely possible that an add-in is interfering with those settings, but it can also be that the user/profile may not include the rights to write to that registry key. ============== "DeanH" wrote in message ... Setting for "Always Show Full Menus" Does Not Stay
Thank you both for the info and suggestions. A few bits of info:
--I do have Acrobat 8 Pro on the machine --I'm using administrator rights --I did try previously the File/Shift+Save All, but it did not stick. Re the registry setting, can you elaborate a bit as to what the setting s/b or if I should remove the current setting? Thanks! Setting for "Always Show Full Menus" Does Not Stay
Hi Beachcity,
Did you follow Dean's link to remove the Adobe Add-in to see if the changes then stick? You can rename the Toolbar registry setting and Word will rebuild its part when you next start it. Start Word make the changes, close Word and then refresh (F5) the registry and see what settings you have. The settings from Tools=Customize=Options in the registry Registry Value Setting Tools=Customize=Options match (Default) (value not set) (not used) Adaptive Menus 0=full menus Always show full menus Animation 0=(system default) Menu Animations AutoExpandMenus 1=yes Show full menus after a short delay BtnSize 0=normal size Large Icons FontView 1=font samples List font names in their fonts ShowKbdShortcuts 1=show ScreenTips Show ScreenTips on Toolbars Tooltips 1=Also show Shortcut Show shortcut keys in ScreenTips (the setting for 'Show Standard and Formatting toolbars on two rows' is application Specific and stored separately) =============== "beachcity1124" wrote in message ...
