Default Drawing a line

I use W2003

I have a form inside a table that takes up the page so I can have a border
around the page--this table thus is one large cell

Whatever, but when I draw a line, all that I am able to see are two small
circles, but NO line

On a new document, I can draw a line just fine

The AutoShape default for that document has been set to No Line (probably to
facilitate drawing borderless text boxes). While the line is still selected,
change the line color to black (or whatever color you want). You can then
right-click and choose Set AutoShape Defaults if you want to change the
default line color.
