Default Caption title is not appearing in caption table

I'm using Word 2003. Currently my List o' Captions looks like:

Figure 1......1-3

I want it to display the caption text instead of (or along side) the Figure
number.

How?? Seems that I've clicked and checked everything, but probably not.

select the very first character of the list. Since it's supposed to be a
TOC field, this should select the whole field. Then click on CTRL-F9.
This should display the underlying field code of the index. Please post
back with the complete field code.

I suspect the real problem is in the way the captions are formatted, but
we have to start with the index.
