Default Tabs in Templates used in Word 97

Hi,

This problem occurs when using Word 97 under Windows XP...

Created a template with Heading Styles (named Heading 1, Heading 2,
etc...) - template has a unique name (i.e. not Normal)
Whenever a document which is based on this template is opened each of
the Heading gains a tab setting which is not part of the formatting.
Also they lose any indent settings

Example: Heading 1 is formatted with a -0.5" left indent, and a +0.5"
hanging indent, but NO TABS (I select 'clear all tabs' when creating
the style)
When the document is opened the formatting of the style changes to a
+0.25" indent and +0.25" tab setting) All other settings
(font/paragraph etc) are retained.

Other headings behave in a similar way. This kind of negates the
benefit of using a template, as we have to reformat documents each time
we open them.

Any help gratefully received - as long as the answer isn't "upgrade to
Office XP!" ... I don't control the budgets here :-)

Thanks in advance,

Shaun

It sounds as if you've associated a numbering format with the Heading
styles. The indents and tabs in the number format will override those
defined in a paragraph format.
