Default How do I supply enough memory for a very large word document??

I have a VERY LARGE word Master Document / subdocument (nearly 300 pages with
tons of graphics, hyperlinks, tables, etc) for which I do not seem to have
enough memory to successfully redo the table of contents or list of figures.
Subsequently, it won't let me save the complete document but gives me the
following message:

"Word has insufficient memory. Do you want to save it as Rescued Document x?
WARNING: The operation will save all text in the master document but not
its structure."

Does anyone have a solution to this problem?
