Default Opening and saving doc in Word 2003 but saves in wordpad, help?

I am using MS Office Professional 2003 with Word 2003. I can open a new Word
Document okay and save it as a word document however, my machine actually
saves it in Wordpad. How can I stop this happening?

It's probably just showing a WordPad icon. See
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/ReRegisterWord.htm for instructions on
"reregistering" Word, that is, reestablishing its "ownership" of the .doc
and .dot file extensions in the Windows Registry.
