Anyone know what would cause a header/footer to go missing? I had a user
with a document that would not display the header/footer. We managed to
solve this by copy/pasting most of his data into a new document, but if you
copied the entire document into the new document, the new document no longer
had a header/footer. Very strange.

I was wondering if anyone has encountered this and if you have any
suggestions about what caused it.

Do the headers/footers print or show up in print preview (not print view)?

Headers and footers are contained in the section break; in most documents
this is the last paragraph mark. If that isn't copied, the headers/footers
won't be copied either.

If you're just not seeing the header/footer, first have a look at
http://home.earthlink.net/~wordfaqs/WhiteSpace.htm. If that's not the issue,
but rather you can go to View | Header and Footer and not get a
header/footer pane, then the document is most likely corrupt; see
http://word.mvps.org/FAQs/AppErrors/CorruptDoc.htm
