In Word, will tab over and the document name and the office bar at the top of
the screen start flashing on and off as if stuck. Cursor flashing on an off
as if stuck. Sometimes it corrects itself and other times have to shut down
and reboot the computer.

This is a problem typical of the Norton AV Office plug-in. Uncheck the
office plug-in from Norton AV's options.
