Default Word 97 filename length limited

I have Word 97 and when I try to save a file, the filename is always
truncated to 1 character only (the first letter of the filename I would like
to use). I can rename the file in My Documents, and open any file in word,
but saving the same file changes the filename to just the first character.

This problem occurs when Word is set to (Windows 95) compatibility mode in
Windows XP. Instructions from Office MVP Beth Melton for correcting this:

To rectify:

- Locate WinWord.exe
- Right-click and select Properties
- Select the Compatibility tab
- See if you have a Compatibility Mode set
- If set remove the tick in "Run this program in compatibility mode"
