Default Compatability Mode in title line for *.docx file

Why would (Compatability Mode) show up in the title bar of a file in Word 07
saved as a *.docx file? I thought the only files that say that are Word 07
files saved as Word 03 *.doc files. Thanks in advance.

I would assume it saves them wherever you choose to save them. Unless you
have explicitly chosen another default folder for Word, or switched to
another folder before saving, they will be saved in My Documents.

There is no separate compatibility mode document. The message simply means
that Word is operating in compatibility mode because of the file type. Any
changes are saved to the document you opened wherever it is already stored.
