Default How do I filter a Dbase date field in a word mail merge documnet?

I have created a Word document that is linked to a Microsoft Visual FoxPro
Table. In the Visual FoxPro Table there is a field that has a DATE format.

In Word how do I set up a filter with the Edit recipient list... option
using the advanced sort criteria? I have tried many times to set up a sort
by setting a criterion to this field but it does not seem to recognize any
numerical value that is found in the data.

For example if the criterion is set to:
h_date contains 2005
There are dates that contain 2005 but none of them are selected.

Thanks
