I saved two docs with same name ... is one lost for good?

Unless you have some sort of a backup, it's gone.

Unless you had checked "Always create backup copy" in the Tools Options
Save dialog before you started, or unless you switched to a different folder
before saving the second copy... yes, it's gone.

Have a look at http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm, which might
save your bacon the next time.

Not if you saved them to different locations. However, if you were prompted
about 'overwriting' a file by the same name & said OK, I'm afraid you're out
of luck.
