Default Sorting by Dates

I have a 3 column table that I want to sort by date. My date field is
00/00/0000. However, when I sort it, it sorts by the first 00, then the
second 00 and finally by the last year field.

I've tried changing the slash to a period and that doesn't help. Tried
sorting by date, by text and by number.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

What is your default short date format in Windows | Control Panel | Regional
Options?
