Hi,

The cursor in Word 2003 seems to have some extraneous lines that keep
flashing to the sides and on the bottom of the cursor. How can I get rid of
this distraction?

You've probably got "Click and type" enabled. Disable it on the Edit tab of
Tools | Options.
