I have received a document that I which to modify which has a vertical border
down the right hand side of every page. I cannot find any way to modify this
as I don't know how it was created.

To change or remove a page border, look in Format | Borders and
Shading. Click the Page Border tab.

And if it isn't a page border, it may be a drawing line or some other sort
of border anchored to the header paragraph. If that seems likely, View |
Header and Footer to access it.
