How do I specify the backup file location in Word 2002?
I would like to choose between the default (same directory) and other folders
when Word automatically saves backup files. This avoids clutter in the same directory. |

You can't, at least not by anything included in the out-of-the-box program. "Automatically back up" doesn't make a copy of your document, it just renames the older version prior to saving the next version, and it does that only in the document's current location. This is explained at http://www.word.mvps.org/FAQs/General/AutomaticSave.htm. See http://www.gmayor.com/automatically_backup.htm for a macro that will do what you want -- make a separate copy of the newer version in a different location. -- Regards, Jay Freedman Microsoft Word MVP FAQ: http://word.mvps.org |
