Default how do i create a doc for input into a doc with field codes?

I am confused as to how to use the field codes in Word. In Excel, you import
the cells from a "data" sheet. Do you do the same in Word? How do you go
about creating the "data" sheet for the input?

It's not really clear to me what you want to do. Maybe mailmerge?
