Making an A3 poster from A4 sheets
Hi,
I have a A4 poster designed in MS Word 2003, which I am trying to make into an A3 sized sheet by spreading it over two A4 sheets equally (I do not have an A3 printer). Is there an easy way of doing this, without re-designing the layout? |

Answer: Making an A3 poster from A4 sheets
Yes, there is an easy way to make an A3 poster from your A4 sheets without having to redesign the layout. Here are the steps you can follow:

Publisher can tile a large document over several sheets; Word does not have
this capability. -- Suzanne S. Making an A3 poster from A4 sheets
This used to be possible. There was a "banner" or "poster" option in the
"print properties" menu (see some of the earlier newsgroup items for Word). Unfortunately, this option seems to have been removed in Word 2003 and now we have to purchase other software to do this. My "upgrade" no longer feels so good. Has anyone else experienced this? This has never been a Word feature. Anything in the printer Properties is a
feature offered by your printer. You have evidently either changed printers or changed drivers. Some printers do offer options to "tile" to several pages, scale up to print large posters, print booklets, print watermarks, insert separator sheets, etc. Others don't. If you have Publisher 2003, you can create posters in it that can be tiled. Publisher also supports banner printing. -- Suzanne S. Making an A3 poster from A4 sheets
Dear Suzanne,
Thank you for your response. Unfortunately, I haven't changed printers or drivers and I don't have other software such as MS Publisher, so I am at a loss to explain how I did this before and why it no longer works (it was a year ago that I printed banners extending unto two pages). Good news however, I do have an easy solution which will apply to most people. Because the majority of us have both MS Word and MS Excel, a simple work-round solution is to copy the picture or type the text into one of the cells in Excel. The output will be printed at the original size (or can be re-sized in Excel), extending over as many sheets of paper as necesary. For example, type the text "Thank you for not smoking." into a cell at the font size of 72. When you print this, it will come out on two pieces of paper which can be taped together. Another example is inserting a very large picture in a graphics formatted file such as jpeg using the INSERT - PICTURE - FROM FILE menus. The picture will print over as many pages as necessary. When using Word documents, such as the A4 poster that you have, Peter, you will have to copy the Word document to the clipboard and then paste it in as a picture. (Use Edit - Select All and then Edit - Copy in Word. Then go into your Excel cell and click Paste Special - Picture.) I'd imagine that you could do the copy and paste in Publisher, whichever program you have. Other means of inserting (such as using the Import Word document feature of MS Publisher) cause portions of the Word document to be lost. The only other thing you can do with a Word file is to convert it from a document to a graphics format such as jpeg using another piece of software (I use PaintShopPro). Then the instructions above for inserting a jpeg file work. Hope this helps. Evelyn "Suzanne S. Barnhill" wrote: This has never been a Word feature.
