Wally's footnote problem Wally's footnote problem is offline

Default can not delete text

somehow some lines show shaded on the page but I can neither select them nor
delete them
I was trying to enter a footnote and that I have but above it is something I
want to delete

Hi Wally:

Go to ToolsUnprotect Document... See if that solves your problem. I
suspect that you might have a section break in there that has declared an
area of the document to be "protected".

Either that, or it's an unresolved tracked change, or another footnote
reference. Try resolving all tracked changes in the document. Try
double-clicking the item to open the Footnote window.

The clue in your response was "another footnote reference". By persistence I
found footnote seperator and there was the illusive text. Deleting the
footnote seperator did the trick. Do not understand why there is a 'footnote
seperator' nor why it takes text.
