Default Why do field codes skip to the next line, like a forced return?

sometimes I find when I add cross referecnes into a document that the field
code (i.e. the inserted referece) jumps to the next line.

So you end uo with something like.....

For info see Section
1 - Introduction to Wotsit on page 9.

This is no good, but I can't figure out how to fix it.

Can anyone help?

Thanks,

Andrew.

Fields, like cross-reference, do allow text wrapping to occur within them, so
it should not be a problem with the field itself, but probably the text that
is being referenced.
In you example, I would check that "Introduction to Wotsit" does not have
nonbreaking space between the words. If you show the non-printing characters,
if not already (use Ctrl+Shft+8 to display), do you see º between the words?
Nonbreaking Spaces are created by using Ctrl+Shft+Spacebar and also can be
pasted in from elsewhere. You can replace these with normal (breaking) spaces
with Find/Replace. Open Find/Replace, either press Ctrl+Shft+spacebar or
click on More button, Special and select nonbreaking space, you will see ^s -
this is the code for this item. In the replace with, press the spacebar. Find
and replace at will.
The cross reference field will need refreshing and the text should now wrap.
Quick way to refresh, is to seelct the whole document (Ctrl+A) then press
F9, this will refresh all fields, this includes the Table of Contents and all
Xrefs.
Hope this helps
