Default Word 2003 not opening documents properly

hello,

all of a sudden, when i open multiple word documents they don't open on top
of each other. each one i open is positioned maybe 2 inches to the right of
the previous one.

i don't recall changing any settings that would cause this to happen and i
can't figure out which option i need to change to have all of the documents
open on top of each other.

i checked the cascade option on the taskbar and it is not checked.

this doesn't happen in excel or any other file type that i open. any help
would be greatly appreciated.

if it helps, i am using windows xp with service pack 3.

thank you.

This is Word's multiple document interface (MDI), whereas presumably you
previously had selected single document interface (SDI)
Tools Options View Windows In Taskbar toggles between the two views.

Default Word 2003 not opening documents properly

hi graham,

i cleared the windows in taskbar option and each document opened properly,
on top of the previous one, but there was only one button on the taskbar for
all of the open word documents.

that isn't what i want. i want both, to have all word documents open at the
same size and to have a button for each document on the taskbar.

i'm not sure if this is a word problem or a windows problem.

i posted it in the word forum because it doesn't happen to any other file
type.

thank you.

Tracy

I don't believe there is such a choice. You either have windows in the
taskbar - or in the application.

If you need both, then you need to upgrade to Windows 7 which has a far
better Taskbar.
