No Printing a word
I am using Word 2003.
I want to put the word "FINANCIAL" on a financial page of a long report just so that it will be part of the "table of contents", but do not want it to print on the financial page itself. I believe there is a way to do this, but right now I am having a senior moment. Can anyone tell me how to do this or at least point me in the right direction? aurora |

No Printing a word
Insert a TC (table of contents entry) field with the word "FINCANCIAL." You
can do that via the Mark Table of Contents Entry dialog box, which you can display by pressing Alt+Shift+O. As you create the table of contents, be sure to check the option for "Table entry fields" in the Table of Contents Options dialog box. If you already have a TOC, press Alt+F9 to show the field code, and add the \f switch. Press Alt+F9 to hide the field code again. Thank you for responding. I am not sure I made my question clear. I want the word "Financial" to print in the TOC - I just do not want it to print on the chart page that I have added it to. No Printing a word
With a TC field, the word will print as an entry in the table of contents, yes. The field is formatted as hidden, so it won't print (unless you choose to print hidden text).
If you want to prevent a page number from being displayed in the TOC along with the word, add the \n switch to the TC field code. Note that in order to show/hide hidden text (as well as other nonprinting marks) you can press the ¶ button on the Standard toolbar. -- Stefan Blom Microsoft Word MVP "MAD" wrote in message ...
