Default Dividing

I have a table that I need a division formula in Word 2000. I have typed
{=e7/e6} and pressed F9 to update like in a previous call but nothing
happens. How can I find out if I am using the right cell addresses as this
table has 8 rows and 5 columns, but some of the columns are merged. Do I use
"e". Please help?
