Default how do I save a document to a list in a file within a folder

I am trying to set up a folder that has peoples names in an active file and
peoples names in an inactive file and make it so that their information can
by accessed by clicking on their name on a list in the file in the folder.

Perhaps *any* answer will suffice. If you don't know where you're going,
doesn't much matter which path you take.
